Sydney Shires Round 5 Review

The name of Marc Seymour is one everyone’s lips after another brilliant performance by the Burwood Briars all-rounder.

Seymour’s big century (192) has put Burwood on top in its match against Macquarie University at Northern Oval.

It has been a remarkable few weeks for Seymour who collected phenomenal figures of 9-35 against Epping last round and has now followed that up with a century.

His innings included 18 fours and helped Burwood move along to 5-355 at the end of the day’s play.

At North Epping Oval, Georges River put themselves into a strong position at the end of the day mainly on the back of a century to batsman Chris McCarthur. His 147 came off only 208 balls and tallied an even 100 runs from boundaries. Nick Henriques supported McCarthur well with 83 not out as Georges River pushed their total up to 4-335 at stumps.

Daniel Johnson’s 4-46 has helped North West Sydney dismiss Roseville for 193 in their match at Roseville Chase. Johnson also had a catch and a run out in a fine all-round effort.

He has now collected 8 wickets in his last 3 innings.

For Roseville, there were four batsmen who scored 20 plus runs but no one was able to go on to make a big score.

Lane Cove has already collected first innings points over Balmain South Sydney in their clash at Tantallon Oval.

Balmain South Sydney was dismissed for a mediocre 124, and in reply Lane Cove moved to 8-152 at the end of the first day’s play.

At Weldon Oval, some consistent performances by the whole side helped Strathfield to 9-265 from their 80 overs. Andrew Donovan (53) and Tahmid Islam (48) were the pick of the batsmen.

For Warringah, three wickets to Dale Maksimovic helped restrict the visitors.

At Pennant Hills Oval, Auburn finished the day with 6-305 after 80 overs. Iain Cowan (86), Manuel Naboulsi (67) and Martin Azzimi (58*) helped push their team past 300.

Pennant Hills Bowler Rehan Ratnasabapathy was the pick of the bunch with 3-48 off 16 overs, including four maidens.

Lindfield are at home against Mount Pritchard-Southern Districts in the final match of the round, however at the time of writing, the scores were not recorded.
