McDonald’s has released a statement saying that Ronald McDonald will keep a low profile due to the recent spate of “clown hoaxes”.
“McDonald’s and franchisees in the local markets are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and as such are being thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being,” . Reported both NBC Nightly News via twitter and Buzzfeed on Facebook.

The statement comes on the back of recent “clown purges” that have gripped the US, UK and Australia in recent weeks.
To make matters worse, there was a sighting of a frightening Ronald McDonald look-a-like staring intently through a McDonald’s store in the UK. The video which was posted to Facebook has terrified many viewers.

Police have even become involved as the sightings worsen. McDonald’s don’t want anymore bad press after their name was dragged through the news for firing transgender teenager Kenny Cooley three weeks ago. Cooley had become the first transgender player on his local football team and there was lots of media attention attracted to it.

NBC has reported that McDonald’s haven’t said how often Ronald will appear in public

Many people on social media are appalled at the decision and think that it has been taken too far by the McDonald’s PR department.

When will Ronald return? Hopefully soon, so we can all get on with our lives and appreciate clowns for what they really are. Face painted, colourful, human beings that make hamburgers appear out of thin air. Come back Ronald, we need you.
