Aston Villa have stretched their undefeated streak in the SkyBet Championship to three matches after their enthralling 0-0 draw with Derby County on the weekend. Villa had the better of the opening 45 minutes and twice hit the woodwork through Gary Gardner and Ross McCormick. Their open and expansive play troubled Derby County who had to settle for their second consecutive goalless draw at home. Derby’s best chances came from a Tom Ince shot that was parried away by Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini and later a Richard Keogh shot that was cleared off the line by Ashley Westwood in the opening stages of the second half.
Aston Villa were without new signing Mile Jedinak who didn’t have his visa sorted in time and instead had to watch from the stands. Villa looked bright throughout the game but will welcome reinforcements that owner Dr Tony Xia has been very vocal about. They will be a little disappointed that they didn’t collect more from this game after their dominance in the opening 45 minutes. The draw leaves the Birmingham based club in 12th position on 5 points and just 1 point adrift of the playoff positions.
They will attempt to collect their 2nd win of the season when they travel to Bristol City on Saturday.
